detoxification marijuana Non-voters, for the most part, are young or low-income or people with limited education. Their primary areas of concern revolve around entry level
jobs and income, education and children, drugs and crime, and gun violence. Apart from education, these are not problems facing the suburban “swing” voters who are likely to vote, so we don’t hear much about them in a national campaign.
But the candidates have taken positions on these issues. Thanks to issues2000.org and vote-smart, people could examine them here.
Clearly, when non-voters say, “all politicians are alike,”
if we can point out where candidates disagree on the issues important to them, this will be of great help in persuading them to vote.
Of course, it would help if the local broadcast stations would devote 5 minutes a night between 5:00 and 11:30 PM to candidates discussing issues. That’s what our Media Campaign was advocating, in conjunction with the Alliance for Better Campaigns. It would bring these issues to the attention of likely non-voters in a way that nothing will.
Here, for example, from WPVI’s own web site, is how Action News focused on candidates discussing issues last night--under Campaign 2000: Action News--Candidates Discussing Issues
